A message from RIAFC President, Chief Michael A. DeMello - Bristol Fire Department
Welcome to the RI Association of Fire Chiefs. It is with great pleasure and humility that I am fortunate to lead our team of Fire Chiefs. As President, my primary focus is to represent all departments and provide a unified voice for the fire service in Rhode Island and beyond.
The RI Association of Fire Chiefs, as we know, began in 1967. Since then, the association has been a driving force behind improvements throughout the state fire service. Continuing the legacy and advocacy work of the association is of paramount importance, and I will continue to ensure our voices are present in local, state, and national legislatures and forums.
The fire service of today continues to face challenges, some new and emerging, while others have persisted over several decades. This association will continue to remain at the forefront, providing mentorship and empowering the current and next generation to ensure success.
Our work is circular in nature, requiring constant feedback, discussion, and change. Collaboration is necessary at all levels of government, with all types of departments, and with new partners that traditionally may not have been engaged with the fire service.
Challenges will persist, but together as one we will prevail! It is with sincerest gratitude that I thank the membership for their faith in me to lead this great organization. Thank you to all those that have served and are serving for without your hard work the RI Association of Fire Chiefs would not be what it is today.
Finally, remember to check on each other as the weight individually carried is not always obvious.
Respectfully,
Michael A. DeMello
