Hear "Mayday" Call That Saves Minnesota Firefighter
The fire happened last month on St. Albans Street and firefighters had no idea what they were about to encounter. Flames burned a whole through the first floor and immediately collapsed when firefighters made their way through the front door. One firefighter fell through the floor but managed to spread his arms across the hole which kept him from falling into the basement below which was fully engulfed in flames.

Providence fire forces 3 families from their homes
A late-night fire forced eight people out of their homes. It started just before midnight Thursday in the first floor of a multi-family home on Glenham Street. Investigators said the flames also caused damage to the house next door. Everyone inside was able to escape safely. Some were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

Follow Up: North Kingstown fire union ready to fight town's decision
A packed house at the Beechwood Center Monday night listened to impassioned testimony from firefighters, school committee members and spouses as the North Kingstown Town Council opened a public hearing on a revised ordinance that would mandate a scheduling change in the NK Fire Department to 24-hour shifts every three days.

Mayor Taveras: Providence is facing bankruptcy
Taveras alleged that the lack of concessions made by tax-exempt groups has created a $7.1 million budget gap. Taveras went on to say: "My message to the tax-exempts is clear. "You cannot be successful in a failed city." Taveras argued that Providence taxpayers, police, firefighters and school teachers have all made compromised and it is time for tax-exempt groups to follow suit.
