Oregon firefighter falls through roof battling apartment blaze
VIDEO: A firefighter who fell through the roof while helping battle a large two-alarm blaze at a condo building in Southwest Portland Wednesday afternoon is doing fine, authorities said. ... One of the firefighters on the roof suddenly fell through as it collapsed under him. This happened while Sky-8 was showing live aerial video of the fire.

Ohio Town's Trustees Vote to Lay Off 84 Firefighters
Sycamore Township trustees voted to lay off 70 part-time and 14 full-time firefighters Wednesday night. The move leaves the department with 13 full-time firefighters, trustees said. Trustees said they had no choice because they're facing funding cuts from the state. They said every other department has already seen cuts.

Tiverton firefighters fix up the three stations
The three Tiverton fire stations saw some upgrades this spring as members of the department volunteered weekend time to refurbish various interior and exterior parts of the buildings. Lt. Craig Committo said Station #2 on Main Road just received new vinyl siding and they painted the remaining exterior in a tear drop off white, as well as fixed the broken curbing out front.

East Providence Fire Department gets by with older hoses, could use funds to purchase new ones
While stressing there was no imminent danger to the public safety or well being of the city’s residents and businesses, East Providence Fire Chief Joseph Klucznik reiterated the need to replace hundreds of feet of hose on the department’s fleet of trucks.

Hundreds apply for Providence fire academy
It's been one day since Providence Mayor Angel Taveras announced a new fire academy in Providence, and the city already has applications pouring in. According to Providence Fire Captain Scott Mello, the department already has a little more than 900 applications on file, and they're expected to have about 3,000 by the time they close the application process.

A Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs delegation recently met with Senator Reed at his Washington DC office to discuss current legislative issues concerning the fire service. The RIAFC members were in Washington for the annual Congressional Fire Services Institute conference and dinner.
